Acupuncture

Achieve balance physically, mentally and emotionally.

What is Acupuncture?

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles, which go back nearly two thousand years.

Acupuncture originated in China and other far eastern cultures where it still features in mainstream healthcare, both as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with conventional western medicine. Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world. Acupuncture looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore the body's equilibrium.

Treatment is aimed at the root of your condition as well as your main symptoms. This approach helps with resolving your problem and enhancing your feeling of wellbeing.

How does acupuncture work?

Traditional acupuncturists believe that the underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body's qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injuries are among the most common.

Ultra-fine sterile needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, much finer than those used for injections and are not hollow. Most people (even those who don't like needles) find the treatment very relaxing and calming.

The aim is to direct the flow of qi to trigger your body’s healing response and to restore physical, emotional and mental equilibrium.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or to relieve specific pains, some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell but have no obvious diagnosis, and many have regular treatments because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.

Treatment is designed to affect your whole being as well as your symptoms so, as your main condition being treated improves, you may notice other niggling health problems resolve and an increased feeling of wellbeing.

Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages and it can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.
